National Junior Honor Society

The NJHS is very busy!  We have begun our hot chocolate stand and will be selling hot chocolate on days four and six. A cup of hot chocolate costs one dollar and toppings are 25 cents each.  Please buy a cup and help us support worthy charities like Habitat for Humanity.  Many NJHS members are also providing peer tutoring for 5th and 6th graders.  Finally, we are busy planning our March Madness event – stay tuned!

Social Action Club

The Social Action Club’s Thanksgiving Food Drive was an amazing success!  We collected over 900 non-perishable food items in one week!  Congratulations to 5B for collecting the most items.  We are now beginning our Toys for Tots toy drive.  Please donate a new unwrapped toy to help a local family.  This toy drive will run from 11/27/2017 – 12/6/2017.  Your donations are greatly appreciated!

A Letter from HSA

Home and School Association

November was a great month to be thankful for our SFXP community!

The First Quarter Honors Breakfast was a moving event for students, parents and all who attended. Our guest speaker, Mother Olga, shared the story of her life, and calling, with us. As the founder of the Daughters of Mary of Nazareth, she shared their motto “Passion for God–Compassion for Humanity” in a way all the students could understand. Her presence, and that of the sisters from the order who joined us for the morning made for a wonderfully joyful event for all. Thanks to Colleen Lotuff for chairing this event, and all those who donated food, coffee, and water.

Bingo night was a huge success! The cash prizes were eagerly claimed in the traditional manner, and a small take of proceeds will benefit the students through HSA funds. HSA dues and funds help to reduce the costs of field trips, fund monthly Enrichment programs, and more. Thanks to Deb Barnes for organizing this event and the volunteers who helped make it fun.

We look forward to many festive events in December in preparation for Christmas!

The Book Fair is December 1st. Every year, the students look forward to singing Christmas Carols (in uniform) and spreading Christmas cheer to shoppers at Barnes & Nobles Bookstore. Students may wear festive Santa hats, and other modest decorations, to get in the spirit of the season. Parents love the opportunity to shop with a purpose as the donated portion of the sales benefit the Arts programs at SFXP.

The Live Nativity is on Sunday, December 3rd, immediately following the 9:00 A.M. Mass at St. Francis Xavier Church. After the Nativity, stay to shop at the Church Fair and enjoy Breakfast with St. Nicholas. Thanks to Julie Milczanowski, Kristin Komar, Pamela Egan-Walsh and Patrice Czapski for helping this year. This year’s cast includes Sofia McManus 8P, Nico Traykovski 7K, Jade Biliouris 6DU, Michelle Kramer 6DE, Claire Komar 7G, Natalia Traykovski 5B, Joe McManus 6DU, Christian Egan-Walsh 5H, Jake McFarland 5H and Flynn Kayajan 6DE.

The Christmas Dance is December 15th and is sponsored by Student Council.

Another way the students celebrate Christmas is with traditional Lessons and Carols on December 22nd. The students are invited to be out of uniform and wear their holiday finest to celebrate Christmas with their homerooms in the morning. At 10:30, students, and their families enjoy Christmas music and scripture at Lessons & Carols in the St. John Paul II High School Auditorium. At 11:30, everyone is welcomed to Monsignor Thomson Hall for a reception. Thank you to Anke Rudy and Karen Wilson for chairing this event.

Please plan to join us for our December Meeting, Wednesday, December 6th at a special time, 6:30 P.M. We are pleased to welcome back Barnstable Police Detective Kevin Connolly who will share with us an important presentation on Internet Safety. This is a great opportunity to learn the latest trends online impacting middle-school students.

We wish you a blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year!
